INTEGRATIVE TRAUMA THERAPY

The goal of Integrative Trauma Therapy is to help individuals create a more meaningful and fulfilling life that is not influenced by the residue of earlier traumas but by a powerful natural force within.

Trauma can interfere with your life. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist located in San Francisco, I help you explore what has led to your current concerns and what might be left unresolved. When you are able to see clearly, rather than through the lens of your previous conditioning, you are in the position of power.

My intention is not to keep you in therapy but to help you quickly move forward in your life.

I have been successful in assisting others in healing their traumatic experiences and clients have expressed their gratitude with many reviews. Clients have called my approach; “Therapy that works”, “A warm and wonderful healing experience”, and “Extraordinary therapy”.

Areas of Focus

With more than a decade of experience in the mental health field, I am prepared to help you to:

  • Overcome Trauma and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder symptoms)

  • Relieve Depression and Anxiety

  • Raise Self-Esteem and Self-Confidence

  • Improve the Quality of Your Relationships

  • Ease Grief

  • Manage Stress

Process

Individual therapy is available to adults via in-person sessions located at my private San Francisco office or online. Teletherapy is offered for residents anywhere in California.

Using an eclectic approach to therapy that caters to the specific needs of each client, I incorporate the following methods in my practice. They have been proven to be very reliable in both my work and extant research. These modalities accelerate the healing process and harness your strength.

  • Body-Mind Approaches encompass therapeutic modalities that recognize the interconnectedness of the body and mind in the healing process. Somatic Experiencing, in particular, is a gentle yet powerful method that focuses on renegotiating traumatic experiences stored in the body. By facilitating the release of physical tension and nervous system dysregulation, Somatic Experiencing helps individuals resolve trauma-related symptoms, such as anxiety, hypervigilance, and chronic pain. Through mindful awareness of bodily sensations and gentle exploration of trauma responses, this approach empowers individuals to restore balance, resilience, and a sense of safety in their bodies. Body-Mind Approaches, including Somatic Experiencing, offer holistic pathways to healing that honor the body's innate wisdom and capacity for self-regulation.

  • Inner Child Therapy is a compassionate and transformative approach that focuses on healing unresolved emotional wounds from childhood. By reconnecting with and nurturing the inner child – the part of us that holds our earliest memories, beliefs, and emotions – this therapy helps individuals identify and address past traumas, neglect, or unmet needs. Through guided visualization, inner dialogue, and experiential exercises, Inner Child Therapy enables individuals to develop self-awareness, self-compassion, and emotional resilience. By acknowledging and validating the inner child's experiences, individuals can foster healing, release emotional blocks, and cultivate a more authentic and fulfilling life.

  • Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique that utilizes hypnosis to induce a state of deep relaxation and heightened focus, allowing individuals to access their subconscious mind. In this state, individuals are more receptive to positive suggestions and imagery, making it an effective tool for addressing a wide range of issues, including anxiety, phobias, habits, and emotional trauma. Through guided imagery, relaxation techniques, and customized suggestions, hypnotherapy helps individuals tap into their inner resources, uncover limiting beliefs, and facilitate profound personal transformation. By harnessing the power of the subconscious mind, hypnotherapy offers a safe and empowering approach to overcoming obstacles, promoting healing, and unlocking the potential for positive change.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, often abbreviated as CBT, is a widely recognized and evidence-based therapeutic approach that focuses on the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Through collaborative exploration and structured interventions, CBT helps individuals identify and challenge negative thought patterns and beliefs that contribute to distressing emotions and maladaptive behaviors. By teaching practical skills and techniques, such as cognitive restructuring and behavioral experiments, CBT empowers individuals to develop healthier coping strategies, enhance problem-solving abilities, and cultivate resilience in managing life's challenges. With its emphasis on present-focused, goal-oriented therapy, CBT offers a highly effective framework for promoting lasting change and improving overall well-being.

  • Emotional Freedom Technique, commonly known as EFT or tapping, is a holistic healing modality that combines elements of Eastern medicine and modern psychology. By tapping on specific meridian points on the body while focusing on distressing emotions or experiences, EFT helps to release energetic blockages and restore balance within the body's energy system. This gentle yet powerful technique can effectively alleviate emotional distress, reduce anxiety, relieve physical pain, and promote overall well-being. EFT empowers individuals to address their emotional challenges and cultivate a greater sense of calm, resilience, and inner peace.

  • EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a powerful psychotherapy approach that enables individuals to heal from the distressing effects of traumatic experiences. By stimulating the brain's natural processing abilities through bilateral eye movements, tactile sensations, or auditory tones, EMDR helps individuals reprocess traumatic memories, reducing their emotional charge and enabling them to integrate these experiences into their past. Through this process, clients often experience a profound sense of relief, resolution, and empowerment as they move towards healing and positive change.

Warm, smart, insightful, compassionate. Susanne creates an environment where you feel safe to open your mind, to open your wounds. From that position, the healing and learning develops in a way that can have permanent results. I go back to see her every year for my “mental health” checkup. I truly adore Susanne.
